DAVID GWILT
STAFFORDSHIRE
My name is Dave Gwilt and I have run the Lee Matthews black belt academy in Cannock for over 5 years.
I have trained in martial arts since the age of 8, firstly training in judo for 3 years and then moving onto Kung Fu and boxing.
In the last 20 years I’ve gained a black belt in freestyle Thai boxing, a 2nd degree Black Belt in full contact American Kickboxing and a Black Belt in Sport Karate.
Alongside these disciplines I’ve also trained in close quarter combat styles such as P.S.F and MMA.
In 1999 i was the WKA British Karate Champion and in 2008 I was the WSKA full contact British champion.
More recently I claimed silver medal at the MMA amateur world championships in Edinburgh.
I do enjoy other things in my spare time other than martial arts such as playing football and going to watch football with my 14 year old son.
I regularly go to the gym and like to run at least 3 times a week.
I pride my classes on being fun yet disciplined and I strive to get the best out of all my students and reaching there own personal goals and hopefully lead a more satisfying life through martial arts like I have.
Our school in Cannock is very friendly and we all support each other and motivate each other to become better.
As I have cross trained in many styles over the years my classes are varied and the content is aimed at providing my students with a diverse skill set as well as the classes being more fun and less repetitive.
My aim for each class is that all students leave feeling different to how they felt when they came in and with a smiley if not sweaty face.
