CALLUM JONES
WEST MIDLANDS
My name is Callum Jones, I started training in kickboxing at the age of six and Lee Matthews was my main instructor. I progressed through all the belts achieving black belt first dan at the age of 12. From blue belt onward I got heavily into kickboxing competition earning myself a place on the BMMA squad at the age of 10 at only a purple belt!
By the time I got my blackbelt I had fought in quite a few competitions and was training 5 days a week and going to training camps! By the age of 15 I won my first British Championship tournament in semi contact. I did the same the following year in points and light contact which earned me to opportunity to fight in the WMKF World Championships where I came home with one first in light contact and one third in semi contact!
More wins the following year allowed me to enter the same competition where I come home with 2 first places (semi contact and light contact) and 1 third place in the category above.
By the age of 16 I started to get into teaching by assisting in classes at the main academy in Telford. I thoroughly enjoyed it so I did my L2 instructor training course at 16 and passed. I was fully qualified to take my own classes and I wasted no time and started teaching on my own once a week. By 17 I was teaching 3 nights a week and by 18 I had my own martial arts school and was teaching 4 nights a week! Now at 20 I teach every night of the week and love it all the same.
Martial arts has been one of the most positive things in my life. When I started training I was very shy and had few friends, it taught me to be confident and how to act in the world with great self control and discipline. I love teaching, it’s the most rewarding job in the world if you can even call it a job.
See you in class
Callum
