KIEREN SUMNER
Hello, my name is Kieren Sumner. I started British Military Martial Arts when I was 6. This is because I was bullied at school from an early age, and my dad wanted me to be able to defend myself. From what my parents tell me, I used to be an extremely hyperactive child. However, going through this experience at school made me very introverted; to the point that I was pretending to be ill for weeks at a time. All because I was scared to go to school.
Learning how to defend myself, becoming physically more capable and instilling discipline, respect, and self-belief, well… it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I cannot stress enough the benefits to anyone, regardless of age, gender, or ability.
I got my first and second Dan at ages 12 and 17, respectively. During this time, I started to become interested in pushing my body to its limits. Getting qualified as a PT, and in mental health and nutrition has been extremely rewarding! This led me into my previous jobs of fitness/personal training. I am extremely passionate about being the best you can be, and that’s why I’ve worked in the fitness industry for almost 8 years.
After this time, I was looking for more ways that I could challenge myself whilst helping people. This inspired me to become a firefighter. The procedures and policies that it upholds are practically equivalent to BMMA’s, so of course I loved it.
My goal is to change the lives of people in the same way that I had mine changed. To reiterate again from the first paragraph, because I genuinely cannot stress this enough, THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT YOU WILL EVER DO!
If you come to BMMA we will draw out your potential and make you the best possible version of yourself.
